Do you get the feeling that you are being watched online? We have the solution! With the help of our friends at Adafruit Industries, we built a Raspberry Pi based Internet "anonymizer" based upon their Onion Pi concept!
This little device is a WiFi access point that automatically modifies your traffic using the Tor service. Using this device, the majority of your Internet usage will go untracked! All you have to do is connect it to your network via Ethernet and plug it in! You will then see a new WiFi network. Please note that we strongly recommend changing the default passwords.
What is Tor?
Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security known as traffic analysis. Learn more about Tor at torproject.org
Our device is based on the latest Raspbian distribution, which is a Linux operating system on the Raspberry Pi. We install Raspbian onto an ultra fast Class 10 8 GB microSD card, then we install and configure Tor. In fact, all you need to do is plug your Raspberry Pi into an Ethernet port on your existing router, and you will now have a new WiFi network that is anonymous. To configure your Raspberry Pi, you must be able to use SSH and Linux. That said, we will provide you with a full guide on how to configure the system.
In addition to the benefits of having a Tor based WiFi access point, the device can be used as a fully functioning Raspberry Pi. Check out RaspberryPi.org to learn more.
